Ludwig von Mises Redesigns Again...
Apparently the Ludwig von Mises Institute has hired someone new for a page redesign… Using several of the elements I strongly proposed (such as a rotating, random quotations bar), but of course - not crediting me in the slightest. I can’t say I’m not a little miffed by that. I personally think that was one of the more genius I ideas I had on the whole project and I promoted it to everyone over there at the time… It’s still a good idea but of course I get none of the kudos.
On the one hand, I’m happy they’re trying to actually make some changes, but on the other I think - like many other people seem to believe - that the design they’re proposing is too cluttered on the front page. What I was essentially trying to do was take the media homepage and making it into something functional (see earlier post here: http://seanwmalone.tumblr.com/post/246370536/ludwig-von-mises-institute-consulting-wrap-up), that actually emphasized multi-media information.
The design they seem to be going with now is not really that focused, but it is an improvement and does put video & audio links on the main page.
All in all I think that it’s a step in the right direction, I just wish they’d have been comfortable making it happen when I was working on the project originally…
I do want to note a couple comments:
Seattle
It doesn’t seem to know what its focus wants to be. All of the elements seem to be screaming for attention, and they all just drown each other out.

The random Mises quotation at the bottom is pure win :) . I have something very similar on my website.
I think Seattle’s right, though. I know that all the stuff here is great, but something (probably daily articles) should be the main design focus.

Not bad, but too colorful and too tight spaces.
The spacey, white design is what I like about the present website.

I think the redesign is beautiful. The color combination is perfect.

It’s funny and a bit amusing I suppose that everyone always has different takes, but I stand by my original recommendations for their homepage. I don’t care so much about the color scheme or font options - but I care a great deal that the Mises Institute is using their media to their greatest advantage. They aren’t… They haven’t been, and redesigning their webpage was only supposed to be the first step in getting them to realize that they need to produce better quality media to begin with.
I simply can’t do it without money, time & help. The profits video I was working on will have to be shelved for a few days already, as it now looks like I’m going to have to do all the editing myself. This would all be easier if the whole community was willing to actually support high quality media production - unfortunately that is seeming like a dream I had once and not very realistic. At any rate, I hope they succeed.
