Jim Cummings!
Last night I met the amazing voice acting talent, and someone of whom I’m an immense fan - Jim Cummings. Anyone who knows me should be pretty aware that I don’t really get starstruck and I don’t really care that much about famous people - and I suppose in truth Jim Cummings himself isn’t that “famous”.
However, his voices are iconic!
Tigger, Winnie the Pooh,...

Zoom!
“Profits” seems to be taking off in a big way… I’m really excited for that. Also, I’m excited that I finally feel like I’ve really got some motion-graphics skills that I didn’t think I had before. More videos to come and at a faster rate!

Ludwig von Mises Redesigns Again... →
Apparently the Ludwig von Mises Institute has hired someone new for a page redesign… Using several of the elements I strongly proposed (such as a rotating, random quotations bar), but of course - not crediting me in the slightest. I can’t say I’m not a little miffed by that. I personally think that was one of the more genius I ideas I had on the whole project and I promoted it...

Peter Pan musical!
I’ve been relatively quiet the last couple weeks because I’ve been doing a personal project… Putting together a video of the West Coast road trip my brother and I took last year. It was great fun, and we have a lot of good memories from Oregon & California.
I was also involved in an on-set recording/production project for a music magazine which has since collapsed...
Lessons from another Blog.
I just discovered a great little tumblr blog called “Clients from Hell”. There are some really great stories on that site, and some of them remind me so much of things I’ve dealt with in the past… Everyone I know who freelances as a creative producer of any kind has tons of these experiences.
Most of my favorites start with someone claiming that if only the freelancer...
New Gear!
I’ve just acquired a few new pieces of hardware, which is always great fun… First was this lovely digital field recorder - the Tascam DR-100. Lot’s of special features attached to this gem, and what’s best of all is that it will enable me to start taking more work doing on-set/location sound and recording all sorts of interviews and such. With 4 built-in microphones, 2...

The absolute beginner's guide to the orchestral... →
tjslater:
This is an article I have written for Shockwave-Sound.com for composers new to producing their own synthetic orchestral scores.
Here’s an article by one of my best friends on some techniques to get started in the MIDI music production world. It’s a fine introduction if any of you are interested… Just don’t forget that it’s the ideas and not the tools...
Video Project Nearing Completion!
I’ve been producing a video project on the irrational fears of violence being or potentially being perpetrated by ordinary citizens in the United States - while actual, rather serious, instances of police brutality and abuse of power are commonplace.
I’m about a month later than I’d expected to be on this video project, but I’m happy to announce; it’s just about...
Ludwig von Mises Institute Consulting Wrap-up
Last week, I wrapped up my involvement with a media reorganization and redesign project for the Ludwig von Mises Institute as a consultant. I worked to restructure the hierarchical media management system with the help of their webmaster David Veskler and then re-worked some of their large categorical designations, and worked my way through several hundred files correcting, updating and parsing...
New Website & Repurposing Tumblr
After an extensive website redesign, I’m now ready to return to the tumblr foray. This time, however, I will be primarily using it as my primary means of updating news & information on the website.
If you want my personal philosophizing & long-winded liberty-oriented calls to arms, the Logicology Blog remains in full force.
Other than that, I’m looking forward to getting...

FINALLY… a “mostly functional” workstation again. Traveler is still failing to be recognized, but ProTools is a go. Now to sleep, then, to make up much lost scoring time.

Grrrrr...
…Why won’t Atmosphere just work right? In fact, scratch that, I need to do a rather serious overhaul of the computing systems. It’s time to get everything linked up, daisy chained, networked, running MIDI over LAN and everything else.
More RAM! More powerrrrr!!!! Rarrrrrgh!!!!!!!

Life
Alright - so it’s been a little while… Now that I’ve brought the funk.. I suppose I may as well do the blog.
The SmartSound job finally started a couple weeks ago, and it’s been good. Unfortunately, I’m only part time - 30 hrs a week - but the upside is I’m still making more $$ than I did at fulltime (and extensive travel) with Stiletto.
What this means to...

Humbug on HAL-Television...
Ship TV just showed some “expose” on Uri Gellar… you know, the (not) psychic moron who was thoroughly debunked by James Randi in the 70s… in public… on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson… And in hundreds of lectures and videos since… and whose recent “mentalist” contest reality-show was a huge flop……………. Yes… THAT Uri Gellar, is now in a big ol’ thing on the ship’s TV that is talking about...
